John A. Swider, of Mt. Prospect died Wednesday, August 3, 1926 at Northwest Community Hospital. Beloved husband of Frances (nee Rogalski) Swider for over 64 years. Loving father of Jackie (David) Dupree, Tom (Kim) Swider, Frank (Liane) Swider. Cherished grandfather of Katie (Eric) Taylor, John, Elizabeth Dupree, Adrian (Dan) Goad, Tom and Olivia Swider. Devoted great grandfather of Nicholas and Sophia Goad, Grace, Jack, and Emma Taylor. Preceded in death by his parents John and Katherine Swider.
John was born in Chicago on January 15, 2016. He married Frances on September 8, 1951 at St. James Church in Chicago.
He attended St. Rita High School where his education was interrupted during his senior year when he joined the US Navy upon reaching age 18. After the War, he continued his education at Northwestern University, receiving a Bachelors degree in electrical engineering. He served in the Navy at Subic Bay in the Phillippines. Employee of Montgomery Ward Co. Kraft Food, and Stone Container.
John always had a kind word for all, and loved to entertain family and friends with his corny jokes, and funny stories of his travels. He was an avid collector and has published compilations of his timetable collections “The Timetable Collector”.
Visitation Sunday, 3:00 – 6:00 P.M. at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd (at Northwest Highway) Mt. Prospect. Visitation continues Monday 9:30 A.M. until Mass 10:30 A.M. at St. Raymond de Penafort Church, Main St. (Rt 83) at Lincoln St. Mt. Prospect. Entombment All Saints Cemetery.
